Style Confessions with ‘Confessions Of A Shopaholic’

The self-help industry is a multi-billion money making industry. As much as I like a date with destiny, some dates are also a luxury for when you have time. Other dates are simply not worth your time… Like that podcast I recently got recommended by a friend. When I tuned in to give the podcast a try, it was another millionth man turned life coach. Please, stop. They are in need of a new bakery down the street. Give that a try? I am all for cheering each other on and setting the ground rules for your own makeover. But before you start, make sure you check the reliability of your source. – Costume Design by Patricia Field

Sometime long ago, I was reorganizing my wardrobe and counted one too many pairs of shoes. I stared at the shoes. There was nothing wrong with the shoes. At that particular time, I was just wearing the same pair of black Converse sneakers for three months in a row. I was not styling the other pairs of shoes and they were starting to collect dust like color coordinated memorabilia. We tend to wear a small percentage of our wardrobe, which may be one of the reasons that creating a basic capsule wardrobe has found a new popular surge these days. Time for a few style confessions withConfessions of a Shopaholic.

The Patricia Field Signature. Nobody does bright color blocking costume design like Patricia Field. Her costumes are usually colorful explosions with a dramatic flair. Sex and the City, The Devil Wears Prada and Confessions of a Shopaholic are just a few movies with her magic costume design touch. It has become a Patricia Field signature. You cannot call it a signature style just because it is something that you do often. Do not add the title ”signature recipe” just to attach the label, in order to try and make it feel like your own. An authentic signature takes time and has to be earned. Unless, you want to go through life as inauthentic and take the short-cut. The world is full of possibilities. The choice is yours.

It is time to confess…

Confession #1: What we wear has a psychological effect on us. When we feel we look good. We feel better.

Confession #2: You need to bring clothes to life. Otherwise they’re just clothes. That is where style comes in.

Confession #3: A lot of people are styled by other people.

Confession #4: Shoes are important.

Confession #5: Most people working in fashion wear their version of a uniform. But in a better way than the Zuckerberg washed out grey t-shirt and jeans. Nobody knows what his deal is.

Make your own uniform. There is almost nothing worse than having a huge wardrobe and not knowing how to pair what you own. You can even incorporate bright colors and beautiful patterns into your everyday uniform if that is something you really love. Let’s take my uniform look as an example: If I switch out the sneakers for a pair of black stiletto ankle boots and the jeans for black leather leggings. I have myself a date night look. The uniform look should make you feel put-together at all times. Your life might be falling apart, but your outfit can still look great. Do not forget to accessorise your version of your uniform to give it more of a personal touch. If you want to try a different styling approach, start with styling your new uniform from your favorite pair of everyday shoes. Do not buy shoes you cannot walk in. Shoes are important.

What would be your version of your uniform?

1.The self-driving uniform sneakers

2.The analytical uniform sneakers

3.The my life is falling apart, but I look fab uniform sneakers

4. The victorious uniform sneakers

5. The I AM NOT YOUR BASIC uniform sneakers
