Getting Ready For The Tennis Court With Athleisure Clues From ‘Clueless’

Fashion comes and goes. Something is in fashion and soon the fashion must-have time expires. The 90s gave us baggy low-rise jeans, scrunchies and choker necklaces. Some of those must-have items faded into the fashion records, but most of them made a quick comeback. Clueless set many fashion trends for years to come, proving that movies can transcend the test of time. Not only in their visionary approach but also in their costume design. – Costume Design by Mona May

Cher (Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne (Stacey Dash) run the hallway like a runway with their bold fashion statements. Their gigantic closets (with over fifty costume changes for Alicia Silverstone alone in the movie) soon made Clueless the fashion film of the decade.

As if plaids and check patterns can’t be worn all year round. Plaid patterns can be worn all year round and in any color! Clueless is one of those movies that makes it quite difficult for the audience to keep up with the constant outfit changes. Each outfit styled perfectly. The true genius of Mona May as the costume designer comes to light with the fact that we never seem to get tired of the ever evolving outfit changes. Throughout the movie we see Cher and Dionne wear similar patterns in contrasting colors. Slowly some of their classmates catch on to these same trends. Cher’s outfits are never over the top, while Dionne’s style is more fearless to fit her outspoken personality.

How to hype up the items you already own? It is always a good time to start investing in high quality items. You really do not need a massive closet in order to add value to your wardrobe. Once you have a few good basic items, you can already start experimenting with different styling options. It is also important to have similar items in different materials. Materials like cashmere and satin might not be as easy to combine on a daily basis, but they will easily add a luxurious touch to the rest of your wardrobe. Some materials are more delicate than others. Know how to take care of these items in order to make them last.

Athleisure doesn’t have to be boring. Dragging yourself to that tennis or yoga class with zero motivation to move a muscle can be a real challenge! Motivational Instagram posts usually do not go past moving your finger. Sportswear can be your way of everyday life, but for most of us heading to that workout means that we need to get ourselves an appropriate outfit. Cher and Dionne bridge the gap to sportswear with their own phone accessories, which seems even more important when you’re about to snap that gym selfie. Instead of going for a new sportswear look head-to-toe, think of items you already own that could easily match the occasion. A white t-shirt can do wonders for that new white stretch skirt and voilà, you got yourself an impromptu tennis outfit to-go.
