How To Find Perfectly Balanced Style For Your Body Shape

Many designer labels recently showed us that skinny jeans are out of fashion and loosely fitted denim shapes are back in! Nobody actually wanted to go back to those tight skinny jeans after those pandemic lockdowns. But were those skinny jeans ever meant for your body shape? We like to stay up-to-date by following certain fashion trends. There has been a new surge in tailored jeans and dark denim jackets. How do you find the perfect style for your body shape?

Our bodies come in different shapes and sizes, each to be loved and celebrated in their own way. Defining your body type will make it easier to keep everything proportioned when styling all those different layers. Sometimes it is easier to define your body shape by using a measuring tape, but most of the time you can get a pretty good idea of your body shape by glancing at a mirror from a long distance and observing your silhouette. The six body types can be marked as following: Rectangle, x-shape, round, triangle, inverted triangle and hourglass.

How to know your body type? Each body type needs a little help here and there to make the proportions of your silhouette flow in any outfit. This also means that no body shape is the perfect body shape. Good tailoring is the key to a great outfit! Let’s have a look at these six body shapes and how to easily accentuate your best features.

#1 The Rectangle Body Shape: As the rectangle body shape is very straight it is important to create structure in the silhouette by highlighting the proportions. Without much movement around the middle and lower waist, it can look like most clothes are just hanging on this body type. This body type is long and lean therefore try to avoid vertical stripes.

#2 The X Body Shape: In the X-shape body type the shoulders and hips are the same width, while the waist tends to be smaller. This body shape is usually quite balanced by itself, but be careful to not overly exaggerate this body shape with extremely tight fitting clothes. One of the best ways to enhance the harmonious body proportions would be with high waisted skirts or pants.

#3 The Round Body Shape: A round body shape is usually a bit heavier in the upper body. To balance and structure the silhouette you can play around with a-line shaped bottoms. Flared jeans and a-line skirts are great options for this body type.

#4 The Triangle Body Shape: The triangle body shape has very narrow shoulders and a smaller upper body, while most of the volume will be situated around the hips. You can play around with oversized tops to bring more volume to the upper body. Straight fitted pants can be a great camouflage for the hip area if you still want to wear something tighter on top.

#5 The Inverted Triangle Body Shape: The inverted triangle body shape usually struggles with very wide shoulders on a smaller frame. You can create balance by bringing more volume to the lower body. Try to avoid razor cut tank tops, these kind of tops will only make your shoulders look broader and more out of balance with the rest of your silhouette.

#6 The Hourglass Body Shape: The hourglass body shape is curved and has volume on both top and bottom. Enhance your smaller waist if you want to accentuate your feminine shape. If you wish to flatten your curves, try to go for open necklines on top and a-line bottoms.
