How A Dose Of Minimal Elegance Being Served in ‘The Wedding Planner’ Can Stand The Test Of Time

There seems to be a secret recipe for creating a timeless classic and for having wedding pictures you do not regret 10 years down the line. The right ingredients are usually found by not exaggerating your current style. ‘The Wedding Planner’ starring Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey gives us costume design in a lot of soft pastel colors, beautifully tailored suits and sleek hairstyles. The accidental lovers meet over a Gucci shoe that gets stuck in the middle of the road and that is not the only bit of style this wedding planner serves. – Costume Design by Pamela Withers

My favorite part about organizing events was arriving at the venue and switching my heels for my sneakers, while running around to rearrange all the flowers. Event planning has mostly taught me that no matter how many guidelines you follow and whatever checklist you make: Something. Will. Go. Wrong. Either the catering will be late, the flower bouquet will be too big for the table or someone will be locked inside the ladies room. Therefore for every event plan, make three back-up plans… At least!

When everything goes according to plan. The Wedding Planner gives us costume design in dreamy blue tones, soft lilacs and a hint of vibrant reds. Mostly it focuses on the wedding planner’s need to control every single detail and this character trait fits perfectly with her minimal outfit choices. We see a lot of outfits with crewnecks, turtlenecks and boat neck cuts. These neckline shapes are never revealing too much, but graciously accentuating to most silhouettes. The sophisticated looks are tied together with shiny natural hairstyles and glowy make up.

Remember the golden rule. Life hardly ever goes according to plan. You need to roll with the punches. But in the world of events, there is one important rule to always keep in mind no matter what: Always remember your budget! Is that dream outfit that you planned for a certain event really worth it? Or can you get a similar style for less if only you kept looking? Be honest with your fashion choices because sometimes it might be difficult to find the same exclusive design for less. Did you fall in love with the label or with the design? By no means is it necessary to break the bank while styling for any event of a lifetime. Anyone who has been around in the world of fashion long enough, will tell you that most labels follow each other round in circles when it comes to the next big fashion hit. As long as you keep your eyes open, it will leave you with many different options to choose from.

It takes two to tango. Now that you have realized that you have more options to choose from, also remember to fight for what you really love. My favorite scene from The Wedding Planner breaks the pastel costume design palette with a splash of passionate red! His burgundy shirt seems to even slightly clash with her bright red dress, signifying the tension between them as they sweep across the dance floor. Every now and then you need to break free from your usual wardrobe color palette with an element of surprise. This keeps your wardrobe looking fresh without constantly having to add new items.
